We wanted this stately 1900 French Provincial-style residence to retain its historic character, while bringing it fully into the 21st century. In collaboration with the Architect and Builder, the goal was to elevate the home, and to increase the access to and connectivity between the various spaces to make the plans feel more intentional — and modern.

At JKA we love combining new and old, and sourcing special pieces that embody a story or hold a place in the history of design. Our clients shared this appreciation for mixing contemporary with traditional and mid-century furniture and accessories.

Our clients’ penchant for quiet, understated elegance and a neutral palette also informed the overall design direction for the home, with the occasional injection of an unexpected accent — such as the Mercurio wallpaper in the Boy’s Bedroom depicting voluminous blue clouds pierced by bright red Cupid’s arrows.

The Primary Suite features the client’s preferred color of calming blue, a hue that threads through the home’s otherwise achromatic tones and soft textures.

This beautifully realized, well-tailored home is an expression of our clients’ narrative of how they want to live, with a practical balance of functionality and gracious living.
