This historic Tudoresque home was built in 1897 by the prominent California landowner James Irvine, who lived there until just after the 1906 earthquake. The clients, who are only the third owners to reside in the house, undertook a massive remodel—including refinishing much of the original oak paneling and woodwork—and fully updating the baths and kitchen to bring the home into the 21st Century.

The homeowners are connoisseurs of modern art, and JKA created an environment that functions as a sumptuous but understated backdrop for their ever-expanding collection. A palette of soft-hued paint colors paired with furnishings that combine both comfort and personality, allow the artworks to take centerstage without sacrificing style.
